Chris Hemsworth recently shared his disappointment at the public’s reaction to his Alzheimer’s predisposition

Chris Hemsworth recently shared his disappointment at the public’s reaction to his Alzheimer’s predisposition.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, Hemsworth expressed regret at being so personal with the public, only got it to blow up in his face.

“It really kind of pissed me off because it felt like I had been vulnerable with something personal and shared this,” he told the publication. “No matter how much I said, ‘This is not a death sentence,’ the story became that I have dementia and I’m reconsidering life and retiring and so on.”

He added, “I did read a really funny comment at the bottom of one article: ‘I hope Chris forgets he’s retiring and comes back.’”

During the production of the Disney+ docuseries Limitless in 2022, the actor, 40, uncovered his genetic susceptibility to Alzheimer’s, as he possesses two copies of the APOE4 gene. This genetic revelation means that Hemsworth is 8 to 10 more times likely to develop Alzheimer’s, a condition currently afflicting his grandfather.

Hemsworth delved deeper into this topic during a separate interview with Vanity Fair in November 2022, shedding more light on his predisposition to Alzheimer’s and its potential impact on his life and career.

Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive neurological disorder characterized by a decline in cognitive function, memory loss, and behavioral changes. It is the most common cause of dementia among older adults, affecting millions worldwide.

Having a genetic predisposition to Alzheimer’s means inheriting certain genes, such as the APOE4 gene, which increases the risk of developing the disease.

Symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease typically start gradually and worsen over time. Early signs may include difficulty remembering recent events or conversations, challenges in problem-solving and decision-making, confusion about time or place, and changes in mood or personality.

As the disease progresses, individuals may experience severe memory loss, disorientation, difficulty speaking and swallowing, and ultimately a loss of independence.

While genetic factors play a role in Alzheimer’s risk, lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, and social engagement also influence the likelihood of developing the disease.

Hemsworth delved deeper into the topic during a separate interview with Vanity Fair in November 2022, shedding more light on his predisposition to Alzheimer’s and its potential impact on his life and career. Specifically, the actor admitted his plans to take a step back from acting, leading to a disappointing public reaction.

“There was an intensity to navigating it,” he said at the time. “Most of us, we like to avoid speaking about death in the hope that we’ll somehow avoid it. We all have this belief that we’ll figure it out. Then to all of a sudden be told some big indicators are actually pointing to this as the route which is going to happen, the reality of it sinks in. Your own mortality.”

Hemsworth didn’t provide any further details in his recent interview about his plans for retirement.
