It’s been over a decade since Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes called it quits, but there’s still very little known about their marriage or why it ended.

However, a new report claims Tom was taken by surprise when Katie moved to end their marriage, even though he didn’t challenge her request for primary custody of their daughter, Suri, now 18, or for child support.

There have long been rumors that Tom’s involvement in Scientology pushed Katie to divorce him, especially considering she enrolled Suri in Catholic school promptly upon relocating to New York.

A Scientology Figure Blames The Church For Their Divorce

Now, Ron Miscavige, father of infamous Scientology leader David Miscavige, opened up about the famous couple, admitting he could see signs coming from a mile away that suggested things wouldn’t work.

As per The International News, Miscavige suggests that their relationship began to deteriorate when members of the Church of Scientology moved into their Los Angeles home. According to Ron, the church’s staff relocated to the couple’s residence to ensure that Cruise received proper care and supervision.

This presence likely exerted a significant influence over their household dynamics, which may have contributed to the strains in their relationship. If true, it also confirms the long-held speculation that Scientology did come between Katie and Tom.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Ron revealed, “That didn’t sit so well with Katie, of course, and it hurt the marriage.”

He also mentioned that Katie was concerned her daughter, Suri, might be forced to cut off contact with her under Scientology’s so-called disconnection policy. However, Miscavige noted that Cruise “did not see” the divorce coming and was potentially unaware of his wife’s unhappiness with the Church’s involvement.

The couple subsequently announced their divorce in June 2012, with reports saying Katie was the once who initiated it. However, it was finalized within only a few weeks (record timing in the world of Hollywood), without Cruise challenging Katie’s request, despite apparently being shocked by her decision.

Katie has been notoriously silent on her marriage to Tom since they called it quits, though fans are eager to know her side of the story. Some recent reports suggest that could happen soon, as the Dawson’s Creek alum may be considering a memoir to share her perspective, especially now that Suri is a legal adult.

“For years, Katie’s enjoyed a lavish lifestyle, thanks to Tom’s consistent support,” a source claimed to In Touch. “But as their child nears adulthood, both mother and daughter are facing an uncertain future. It’s a terrifying prospect — going from an amazing standard of living to a question mark overnight!”

“She’s actively looking for roles and is eager to throw herself back into the industry full-time,” they continued. “And don’t forget the non-disclosure agreement she signed — it’s set to expire, too. If things get tough, Katie could cash in by penning a tell-all book!”

Following the report, however, Katie released a statement via her lawyer denying claims she’s worried about money. Whether or not she’s writing a memoir remains to be seen.
