Boy Meets World star Trina McGee shared an exciting announcement with fans – she’s expecting her fourth baby at the age of 54.
“At the tender age of 54 I have found myself pregnant. Please bless us with your prayers for a safe delivery,” she said in an Instagram announcement.
The actress also said she won’t be active online for the time being, sharing her plans to “sign off social media for a bit.”
Trina McGree’s Followers Were Shocked By Her Age
While many of Trina’s followers extended their congratulations, several fans were taken aback upon learning the actress’s age. ”
54?!?! Years old?!?! I mean yeah congratulations on the baby but how are you 54?!” one person commented. Another user echoed the sentiment, saying, “54?!?! No way lol. But congratulations!!”
This will be McGee’s fourth child, but the first with her husband, actor and producer Marcello Thedford. The pair have been wed for 16 years after meeting in 1996 while filming the Sylvester Stallone flick Daylight in Rome. Trina shares two children with her ex-husband Courtland Davis and has another child from a different relationship.
McGee rose to fame portraying Angela Moore on Boy Meets World, and she was with the show from 1997 to 2000, appearing in its final three seasons.
Pregnancy At Trina’s Age Can Be Rare
A late pregnancy is generally considered to be one that occurs at age 35 or older. Pregnancy in a woman’s 50s is rare but possible, often requiring assisted reproductive technologies such as in vitro fertilization (IVF). For now, Trina hasn’t revealed if she used reproductive assistance to conceive, or if her pregnancy occurred naturally.
As women age, particularly in their 50s, pregnancy becomes riskier due to increased chances of complications such as gestational diabetes, high blood pressure, and preeclampsia. Additionally, older mothers face a higher risk of chromosomal abnormalities in the baby, preterm birth, and delivery complications. These risks are compounded by the natural decline in fertility and the overall health challenges that come with aging.
McGee isn’t the first celebrity to defy the odds by having a baby in her 50s. Singer Janet Jackson welcomed her first child at the age of 50, making headlines and inspiring many with her journey to motherhood later in life.
Similarly, actress Halle Berry gave birth to her second child at 47, sharing her surprise at becoming pregnant naturally at that age .
Other notable mentions include actress Laura Linney, who had her first child at 49, and Rachel Weisz, who welcomed a baby at 48 with husband Daniel Craig. Kelly Preston, wife of John Travolta, also gave birth to a son at 48, following the death of their firstborn son. These women, in addition to Trina’s recent announcement, illustrate that while later pregnancies can come with heightened risks, they are not impossible. We’re wishing all the best to McGee!
