Jon Hamm, 53, wants kids with much-younger wife after refusing with ex

Jon Hamm is singing a completely new tune now that he’s married, admitting he wants to have a family after many years of never seeing himself with children.

“I hope it turns into kids,” Jon recently told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s not lost on me that I’m 53. I will be the old dad, but so it goes. It could be a good thing. We’ll see.”

The actor reflected on his previous hesitation to get hitched, admitting he “didn’t look at marriage as a thing.” He said he never had a strong example of what a good marriage could look like, considering his own parents’ didn’t last long.

“Obviously, my parents were not married long, so I don’t have a model to look at and go, ‘Oh, this is how one finds happiness.’ I just knew at a certain point I wanted to be with this person. But when I proposed, I was terrified. I was like, ‘What am I doing?’” the Mad Men actor went on.

This isn’t the first time Jon has expressed a desire to be a father since marrying Anna Osceola last fall. At the time, insiders told Us Weekly that expanding their family was a top priority. “Jon feels like this is the beginning,” they said. “He’s happy and healthy, and his friends love seeing him like this.”

Why Jon Didn’t Have Kids With Jennifer Westfeldt

Prior to his relationship with Anna, Jon was in a long-time partnership with Jennifer Westfeldt. During their time together, however, Hamm was adamant that marriage and kids weren’t for him.

“We had that thing where we had friends of ours and Jen and I looked at each other and went, ‘We haven’t seen those guys, what happened to those guys, Oh yeah, they had a baby,’” Jon said in 2012 of their decision not to have kids together.

“And you go into the cocoon for like a solid 6-8 months and we visited and we’d see the baby and everything but you really don’t have time for dinner and hanging out and whatever, so it was the kernel of the idea of ‘what is this?’” he continued.

“And I love our friends’ kids, it’s just that for whatever reason we haven’t chosen to have them. Part of it is our lives, it’s very crazy and difficult if you’re travelling around the world, to have a baby,” Jon went on. “And we don’t have the kind of relationship that allows one person to just stop and stay home and deal with that so it’s a tricky balance.

But the actor was adamant they agreed on not having kids, saying, “But I’ve been fortunate in that Jen and I are very good communicators in that we don’t leave a lot unsaid so we’ve both been on the same page about it.”

Jon and Jennifer began their relationship in the late 1990s after meeting through mutual friends. They were together for nearly two decades, making them one of Hollywood’s enduring couples. Throughout their relationship, they collaborated professionally on projects like Kissing Jessica Stein and Friends with Kids, showcasing their shared creative interests. They broke up in 2015 after 18 years together.
