Stephen Colbert’s Week Off Isn’t Sitting Well With Fans

It is an awkward week for late night show fanatics.

Without much warning, Stephen Colbert has taken time off, and The Late Show won’t be airing on CBS this week.

The network didn’t give further information, though fans assume Colbert is enjoying vacation time.

The decision has resulted in negativity from fans.

That’s especially true given the crucial week Colbert took off, with the Presidential debate set to air.

Fans Are Upset With The Timing Of Stephen Colbert’s Hiatus On A Debate Day, Matched With His Unwillingness To Get A Guest Host

The Late Show Poster-1

Late night show fans were disappointed during the week of June 24-28. Various late night show hosts took time off. That included Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, John Oliver and Jimmy Kimmel, who is being replaced by Martin Short. Of the group, fans are most disappointed by Colbert’s time-off, given that it comes during the anticipated debate between president Joe Biden and Donald Trump on June 27th. CBS didn’t offer much of an explanation either, and fans are assuming he’s enjoying vacation time.

Over on Reddit, fans reacted with a lot of disappointment given what’s going on in politics at the moment.

Fans wrote:

  • “He’s off on debate day? That’s disappointing…”
  • “It’s getting to the point that I honestly think they take off hot topic days. He was off conviction day, he was off for the e Jean Carroll ruling, and now he’s off for this. Maybe the cbs lawyers want him off so they have time to review the script?”
  • “It’s getting to the point when the show isn’t on break it’s bigger news. I understand he was sick for a while, but being off now two weeks in a row after seemingly being off one week a month is ridiculous.”

The complaints didn’t stop there, as fans can’t understand why Colbert never opts for a replacement instead of shutting down the show completely.

That’s what Jimmy Kimmel is currently doing, and it is working wonders with Martin Short providing Jimmy Kimmel Live with some creative moments.

It remains to be seen if Colbert will ever do the same down the road, especially with the off days piling up.

The host went on to reveal that a certain segment really indicated that he wasn’t well.

“The moment I was not prepared for — and I want to start off by saying I love this man — was the cooking segment I did with José Andrés because at the end of it, he spontaneously grabbed me to dance with him. I don’t want to get too technical here: I was dying.”

Thankfully, Stephen was able to recover and return. This time, his time away from the show doesn’t seem to be as serious.
