Matt Damon may be holding back an “I told you so” in light of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s divorce rumors.

A new report says Matt warned his long-time friend that he didn’t think the marriage was a good idea before Ben and Jen tied the knot in 2022.

“Matt tried to warn Ben when he got back together with J. Lo that this could happen,” a source claimed to Daily Mail.

“Matt was there to help Ben get it together after their first split and he felt like this would happen again.”

Damon Wants Affleck To Focus On His Career

The insider reports that Matt is encouraging Ben to focus on his work in the fallout of his marriage, which comes as the pair are reportedly working on a new thriller together.

“As things started falling apart, Matt told Ben that he supports whatever choice he makes but wants him to jump in and focus on his work,” they went on. “Ben spent so much time focusing on J. Lo’s projects just like he did the first time around. He told Ben, ‘What has she ever done for your career?’”

There’s been some speculation that Affleck could be facing a relapse due to the stress of his personal life. Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton has even pushed the theory that Ben may be in rehab, not living separately from J.Lo due to a divorce, explaining their odd public behavior.

The source seemed to deny these claims, noting that Damon won’t let Affleck suffer a relapse after doing so much work to attain his sobriety.

“Matt is the only real guy friend Ben has. He would not let him get back on the bottle and has been on him to make sure of this,” they said.

Damon Has Allegedly Disliked J.Lo For Years

Matt Damon has been careful not to make any public comments on Affleck’s marriage, but this isn’t the first time reports said he was skeptical of Ben’s romance with Lopez.

“Matt’s had serious reservations about Bennifer 2.0 since the beginning. He’s tried to be publicly supportive for Ben’s sake, but the fact is he hates the way J Lo treats his buddy and can no longer hold his tongue,” a source told Radar Online earlier this year.

“It’s no secret Ben and J Lo haven’t been getting along, as he always seems to be in the doghouse,” the insider continued. “It’s obvious something needs to change, but when Matt started giving Ben advice, he totally blew up.”

The same source said Matt worries J.Lo and Ben’s relationship could impact their friendship, explaining, “History is repeating itself because 20 years ago they stopped talking for the exact same reason. But Matt can’t keep quiet, even if it means alienating Ben.”

Despite intense public speculation, Jen and Ben refuse to publicly comment on the state of their marriage.
