Joe Manganiello’s split from Sofia Vergara made headlines all over the world when it came to light last year.

There was a lot of speculation over the reason for their divorce with Vergara, and it is even going on the record.

Joe Manganiello’s separation and subsequent divorce from his ex-wife made waves worldwide. While there was a lot of speculation over their divorce, Sofia Vergara cleared it earlier this year. Or so we thought because it seems like now Manganiello wants people to know his side of the story.

Earlier this year, Vergara went on the record to talk about the couple’s divorce. She said to El País that the reason she split with Manganiello was because he wanted to have children. She said, “”I’m newly divorced from my second husband, who I was with for 10 years. My marriage broke up because my husband was younger.” She added, “He wanted to have kids and I didn’t want to be an old mom. I feel it’s not fair to the baby. I respect whoever does it, but that’s not for me anymore.””

However, Manganiello is unhappy with letting that stand and wants to clarify his side of the story. In the latest edition of Men’s Journal, the actor explained on why the two of them divorced.

“There’s been a lot said in the press about me wanting a family,” the 47-year-old said, saying that his ex-wife’s side of it was “simply not true.”

“We did try to have a family for the first year and a half. And we had a huge conversation right out of the gate during the first month we dated. I said, ‘If you’re done with kids, then I understand. Just tell me, and I’ll know what this is, and that’s okay.’ But that wasn’t the case with her. And I swore to her that I would never leave if it didn’t work out. And I didn’t,” the actor said.

52-year-old Vergara is mother to her 32-year-old son Manolo from a previous relationship.

Manganiello now wants the world to know that not having children together “wasn’t inevitably why everything ended.”

“It’s because two people grew apart, and sometimes that happens,” he simply said.

The actor also said the image painted of him after the divorce was something that hurt him.

“To be painted as if I had some sort of midlife crisis, and after nine years, turned to somebody and gave them an ultimatum of, ‘Do this potentially unhealthy thing to your body, or else I’m gone?’ That’s never who I was,” he said.

In July 2023, Manganiello and Vergara jointly announced the end of their marriage. And in April of this year, they finalized their divorce. Vergara has since then moved on and is now in a relationship with Dr. Justin Saliman.

While Manganiello has also began a relationship with actress Caitlin O’Connor. The couple made their relationship official by posting about it on social media earlier this year.

Sources close to the couple also attested to their commitment to one another, A source said, “They’re in the honeymoon stage and in complete and utter bliss. They’ve been traveling together, going out on fun date nights, and having the best time. They’re looking forward to taking more trips together and continuing to make memories as a couple.”

According to the source, “both feel like they have finally found the right person and are excited about the future.”

Manganiello also spoke of his current flame in the interview, saying his new love was nice to have around when he was having a bad day.

“When you have a bad day, hopefully, you have a good partner in life,” the actor said.
