Back in 2016, fans saw a different side of Melissa Rauch, taking on the role of Hope in the film, The Bronze. Reviews were mixed at best… The top review came from IMDb, rating the film with a 6.1 out of 10. The film failed to capitalize at the box office, generating $615K of its $3.5 million budget.
There was a particular scene that caused Rauch some extra stress. Speaking alongside Vulture,Rauch and Sebastian Stan explained their insane intimate scene in The Bronze. Rauch admits to doing the best she could, but had to request a stunt double for the intense parts.
“I remember staring at her like a creepy old dude,” laughed Rauch, “wishing that she could body-double for me in every moment of life. At one point, I was like, ‘Do you want a robe?’ and she said, ‘I’m good, you’re gonna see everything anyway.’ And she was literally sitting there legs open, eating a sandwich.”
As for her co-star, Sebastian Stan, Rauch credited the actor for going through with it, and not using a double.
“We wrote it as ‘the most crazy epic gymnastic sex scene ever,’ said Rauch. “It really was a porno script, essentially. But Sebastian was so fantastic and he went for so much of it. He could have just said, ‘Have my body double do it,’ and instead he came to set in his robe and said, ‘Okay, let’s do this.’”

In the end, it was a risky project for Rauch, and nothing like her character on The Big Bang Theory. Surprisingly, looking back at the role in The Bronze, she was able to make comparisons between the two roles.

Melissa Rauch spoke about The Bronze alongside Rogert Ebert. The actress was asked about some of the differences in playing this kind of role. The unlikable factor was a major part Rauch wasn’t used to, especially given her popularity on The Big Bang Theory as Bernadette. Still, the pressure of shooting in front of a live audience helped Rauch during her nervous moments in The Bronze. Similar to Big Bang, edits were made on the fly despite the short window to shoot.
“The audience is like a built-in focus group that tells you whether or not something is working. The scripts that our writers put out are always hilarious, but there are times the writers are like, “We could do better on that joke,” she said about shooting TBBT.
“We had 22 days to make the film on a shoestring budget, so there wasn’t time to tweak anything, but Winston and I would still go over to the side and be like, “I think we could do better on this line, let’s see if we can try something else.” That was definitely something that I learned from being on the show, and we still found time for it, even though we only had two takes tops per scene. It was kind of crazy.”

Yes, Melissa Rauch had other problematic scenes throughout her time in Hollywood. One of them came in The Big Bang Theory, and Rauch hadn’t even realized what took place. The scene in question took place in a hotel room under the covers. It seems like Rauch’s gestures were a little too “graphic.”

- “I had a little incident. … I had it as my character. We were shooting a scene and I’m supposed to be in a hotel bed. … I’m under the covers and it’s really cold on set and I’m under there and out of habit I’m doing this under the covers [mimes rubbing her hands together in her lap] and after the scene was over, our director came over and said, ‘We need to see your hands, it looked like you were having way too much fun.'”
