Appearing on Friends could have changed any career.
However, Matt LeBlanc admitted in the past that it came with a lot of stress for guest stars, and some of the actors did not live up under the pressure.
Even the more established names in the industry could not adapt to the different setting.
Fans got to see several different faces. One of them was Rachel Snow, a young child actor.
Years later, fans are still debating her casting on the show as Gert. She took part in one scene alongside David Schwimmer in the later seasons, and fans felt as though the role was harsh for the young actress. Let’s recap her role, and what the fans had to say looking back.
Fans Felt Sorry For Rachel Snow, The Actress That Played Gert For One Episode On Friends
Rachel Snow played in one episode of Friends back in 2001. Her brief cameo during the episode The One with Monica and Chandler’s Wedding: Part 2, was enough to get fans talking. Who can forget Gert wanting to dance with Ross, similar to the other children? The only problem for Ross was that Gert was bigger than the other girls that were dancing on his feet. The scene was truly hilarious and David Schwimmer at his best. However, fans felt bad for Snow having to play such a role.
Rachel Snow’s final acting credit came in 2005 in the TV series, Phil of the Future. She also appeared in Lizzie McGuire, Geroge Lopez and Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Over on Reddit, reactions were mixed in regard to Snow’s casting. The user who initiated the thread worried about the criteria Friends used to cast the young actress at the time. They wrote on Reddit, “I always feel so bad for Gert and Ross. Also, I wonder what they said they were looking for when they did the casting call (I think that’s what it’s called) for Gert’s role. If it was “tall overweight girl”, I’d imagine that would be kind of hurtful to get the part.”
Several other Redditors share their own opinions on her casting. Another user doesn’t think her weight was a primal focus.
“Yeah…as best I can tell, the actress who played Gert (Rachel Snow) is about 5 years older than the actress who played Melinda (Steffani Brass).”
Another fan adds she was used to these types of roles, “This actress was known to play “loser” child characters from what I gather. When she was a little older she played Carmen’s uncool overweight friend in George Lopez for an episode, where she gets made fun of quite a bit (the episode does her a little justice as Carmen realizes what’s important and chooses her over her mean friends).”
Quite the debate in the end. Given that the actress hasn’t appeared in anything in almost two decades, she was able to find happiness elsewhere. And if anything, it is pretty darn cool that she got to star in Friends, and some other major shows.
Cole Sprouse Also Admitted To His Own Difficulties Of Shooting Friends As A Child Star
Cole Sprouse was another young star who got to appear on Friends. As expected, Sprouse admitted it came with difficulties, especially having to work on Friends with Jennifer Aniston. Like so many others, Aniston became Sprouse’s celebrity crush.
“I had a really, really hard time working with Aniston because I was so in love with her. I was infatuated. I was speechless – I’d get all bubbly and forget my lines and completely blank. It was so difficult.,” the actor tells The New York Post.
Sprouse went on to reveal that he also struggled with his lines, particularly given his age.
“I was a child,” Cole said. “I would stammer a lot, and I would forget my lines. I feel like I’d maintain my composure a bit more effectively now, but it was quite difficult when I was a kid,” he added.
Cole Sprouse appeared on Friends for seven episodes between 2000 and 2002.
In the end, the role was a vital learning experience for the actor, who grew his net worth to $8 million since the guest starring role.
Lisa Kudrow Recently Admitted That Shooting Friends Wasn’t Always Fun For One Specific Reason
Fans mostly hear about the positives. How iconic the show was, and how well the cast got along behind the scenes. However, what fans don’t hear about all too often are the negatives. Credit to Lisa Kudrow most recently, who broke that trend. Kudrow was honest about what she hated most, and that was the live studio audience. Lisa felt as though the writers were too focused on their reactions, instead of catering to those watching at home instead.
“They were laughing for too long. It wasn’t that funny. It irritated me,” Kudrow tells O’Brien.
“Now you’re just running the timing of the show. Really angry. A TV show is not for the studio audience, it’s made for the viewers at home. If it were a stageplay, laugh as long as you want. It’s being filmed, and I’m standing there. We did so many takes, that did stop laughing. And they’d make the writers think it wasn’t funny. It took six to eight hours to shoot a half hour episode.”
Lisa Kudrow contemplated leaving Friends early on, but was talked out of it by Matt LeBlanc.
Long days without a doubt. But Friends fans will tell Kudrow it was all worth it in the end.
