The production will be directed by Olivier-winning British director Jamie Lloyd, whose adaptation of the play will open next fall in New York City.
Keanu and Alex, both 59, said they are “incredibly excited” to reunite on stage, over three decades after they were cast in the sci-fi comedy film.
“We’re incredibly excited to be on stage together and work with the great Jamie Lloyd in one of our favorite plays,” their joint statement read.
Jamie, 43, said it was a “real honor” to work with “the brilliant” Keanu and Alex on Irish playwright “Samuel Beckett’s sublime masterpiece” in a statement.
Widely considered one of the greatest plays ever written, Waiting for Godot was first performed in 1953.
The play follows two acquaintances, Estragon and Vladimir, as they wrestle with the meaning of life while waiting for the play’s titular character Godot, who ultimately never shows up.
The Matrix star will portray Estragon while Alex will play Vladimir in Jamie’s take on Waiting for Godot, which marks Keanu’s debut on Broadway.
Alex previously appeared on Broadway in 1979, when the actor was cast in supporting roles in productions of Peter Pan, The King and I, and The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up.
He and Keanu played two slackers who travel through time in the 1989 hit Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure.
The film had two sequels that were released in 1991 and 2020.

NEED FOR SPEED
Keanu, who was last seen in the fourth John Wick film, recently said he wants to reunite with his Speed co-star Sandra Bullock.
The action-thriller was released in June 1994 and became the fifth-highest-grossing movie that year.
Celebrating the film’s 30th anniversary, Keanu joined Sandra for a special appearance on the 50 MPH podcast in May.
The award-winning actor said he feels a “siren call” to do Speed 3, adding, “We’d freakin’ knock it out of the park.”

While he wasn’t a part of Speed 2, Keanu expressed his desire to return to the franchise, adding, “It does feel like there is a siren call to it, like there’s something that wasn’t done.
“I would love to work with you again before our eyes close,” he told Sandra, 59.
