Recently, Keanu Reeves has been hard at work on his latest project, Good Fortune. During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert earlier this week, the 59-year-old actor shared an incident that left some of his fans worried.
Reeves recounted how he suffered a broken kneecap while filming. Known for his physically demanding roles in movies like The Matrix and John Wick, the actor revealed that this injury didn’t occur during an action scene but rather in an unexpectedly mundane moment.
When asked by Colbert about the incident, Keanu playfully responded in a tough voice, “No one got to me,” adding, “Accident got to me.”
Colbert probed further, asking if the injury occurred while performing a stunt. However, Keanu explained that it happened when he was simply walking into a dressing room. While filming a scene for the upcoming comedy Good Fortune with Aziz Ansari and Seth Rogen, Reeves described how he was doing a “cold shuffle” in a room with protective carpets after a cold plunge. Unfortunately, his foot got caught, leading to the injury.
To demonstrate what had happened, Keanu stood up and showed how his knee gave way, explaining that his kneecap “cracked like a potato chip.” Despite the pain, Keanu kept his sense of humor, joking that “comedy is hard.”
Stephen Colbert clarified that the movie was a comedy, not an action film, which Keanu confirmed with a laugh.
Earlier this year, Keanu had been spotted using crutches while filming, with an ice pack on his knee, which now makes more sense given this incident.
Good Fortune marks Aziz Ansari’s directorial debut and features a cast including Sandra Oh and Keke Palmer, alongside Reeves and Rogen.
