Prince William to Attend Notre-Dame Cathedral Reopening Amid Changing Royal Tour Priorities
In a rare public appearance abroad, Prince William is set to travel to France tomorrow at the request of the UK government for the reopening of the iconic Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris.
The historic cathedral, which was severely damaged in a fire five years ago, is now set to reopen after extensive restoration works.
The ceremony, which will be attended by world leaders, including the U.S.
President-elect Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron, marks a significant moment in the cathedral’s recovery. Prince William will attend the event on behalf of King Charles and the British government.
While this marks a major royal engagement, it is also a reflection of the changing landscape for the Prince and Princess of Wales when it comes to royal duties abroad. Author Tina Brown recently highlighted that William and Catherine have a particular aversion to long royal tours.
According to Brown, the couple dreads the disruption these events cause to their family life, particularly how they take Princess Catherine away from their children and intrude on what William calls his “me time.” The Wales family currently resides at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor, where they enjoy a more private family life away from the royal spotlight.
