Prince William forced to cancel major royal engagement today as Palace issues update

The Prince of Wales has postponed a major royal engagement today in Suffolk due to bad weather, it has been announced.

Prince William was meant to meet troops and their families from the Army Air Corps (AAC) at Wattisham flying station.

It would have been his first visit to the regiments at Wattisham since his appointment as the AAC’s Colonel-in-Chief last year.

He was due to arrive in style in a Wildcat Helicopter, a reconnaissance aircraft in the AAC’s fleet.

But the bad weather forced Kensington Palace to postpone the engagement for the future King, who sent his “sincere apologies to those who he had been due to meet”.

Kensington Palace said: “With regret, this engagement has been postponed as a result of poor weather which would have significantly restricted the planned programme.

“The Prince of Wales sends his sincere apologies to those who he had been due to meet and hopes to reschedule his visit at the earliest convenience.”

William became the AAC’s Colonel-in-Chief in May 2024 when the King officially handed over the role at the Army Aviation Centre in Middle Wallop.

The AAC is the combat aviation arm of the British Army, recognisable by their distinctive blue berets.

It was formed in 1957 on the foundations of the Glider Pilot Regiment and the Air Observation Post Squadrons and has locations in Hampshire, Shropshire, Somerset and Suffolk.

It comes after William’s busy day on Wednesday when the royal visited Birmingham as he was named patron of the College of Paramedics.

Prince William

William paid tribute to the nation’s paramedics working in “highly stressful and often distressing circumstances” and described the workforce as the “Swiss Army Knife” of frontline healthcare, during an address at their inaugural emergency and critical care conference.

Later, the prince was snapped enjoying a pint at a Wetherspoons pub in the centre of the city with fellow Aston Villa fans when the footie fanatics met up before a mid-week match.

He spent more than 30 minutes with the season ticket Villa fans before they headed to the match.
