Benny Blanco Says He ‘Was the Last One to Know’ He and Selena Gomez Were in Love

Benny Blanco and Selena Gomez are the real-life Josh Lucas and Cher Horowitz.

The “Eastside” musician opened up about his relationship with the Rare Beauty founder in a new interview with WSJ. Magazine, explaining that it took him a while to realize they were a romantic match.

“I was the last one to know,” Blanco, 36, told the outlet. “It’s crazy how your partner could just be sitting there the whole time, right in front of your eyes, and you don’t even notice, and then you have that Clueless moment where you’re like, ‘Wait, I’m in love.'”

The two stars knew each other for years before they started dating in June 2023, having collaborated on the 2019 single “I Can’t Get Enough” with Tainy and J Balvin. In the song’s music video, Blanco and Gomez, 31, shared a sweet scene on an oversized bed, where he dressed as a plush bear and she wore pajamas.

In August 2023, Gomez released the song “Single Soon,” produced by Blanco. She then confirmed their relationship in a December 2023 Instagram Story, showing off a “B” ring and calling him “the best thing that’s ever happened to me” in a comment.

After sharing photos from various dates and making their first public appearances at sporting events and the 2024 Golden Globes, Gomez spoke to Apple Music’s Zane Lowe about the relationship in February.

“Without getting into too much detail, I think it’s just really important to meet someone that respects you,” she said. “And I think it’s really nice to also lean on someone who understands the world that I live in. But I’d have to say overall it’s the safest that I feel and it’s been really lovely and I’ve only grown through it, so it’s awesome.”
