Blake Lively is one of the most well-known figures at the Met Gala, having graced the red carpet with her presence (and impeccable fashion taste) on multiple occasions throughout the years.
Her fans were looking forward to seeing what daring look she rocks this year, but it appears Blake had other plans in mind, as she was nowhere to be found during the fashion-forward evening.
While Lively hasn’t formally commented on why she was a no-show at this year’s Met Gala, a new report says the actress had a very good reason – her family.
Apparently, Blake didn’t feel like trading a cozy night with her family for the hustle and bustle of the charity gala, opting to stay home with her girls and husband, Ryan Reynolds.
Blake Chose Her Family Over The Met
As per a report by Elle, Blake and Ryan were home with their kids while the event was going on. Still, fans took to social media to express disappointment over the couple missing the met for a second year.
“Pretending to not care Blake Lively isn’t there to save the night #MetGala,” one person wrote, while another said, “The met gala can’t be over yet cause where’s blake lively.”
“BlakeLively not being at the Met Gala basically just fizzles the event. Honestly, they shouldn’t have it unless @blakelively is in attendance. It’s her show, everyone else is just a guest,” another commenter said.
Met Gala Tickets Cost $75,000 This Year
Spending quality time with her family may not have been the only reason Blake and Ryan didn’t attend the Met this year. It may have also had to do with price, considering how much the tickets cost.
Apparently, attendees had to pay $75,000 for a single ticket, with proceeds from the event going to the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City. This is a substantial increase from the year before, when tickets went for $50,000, still a small fortune for most people concerned.
The Met Gala has evolved into one of the most prestigious and highly anticipated events in the fashion industry. Originating in 1948, the Gala was initially a low-key dinner party aimed at raising funds for the Institute. However, under the direction of Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, the Gala has been transformed into a star-studded extravaganza celebrating fashion, art, and culture.
The high demand for Met Gala tickets is driven by its limited availability and coveted guest list, which is carefully curated by Anna Wintour and the Costume Institute’s team. Tickets are not publicly available for purchase; instead, guests must be invited by Wintour or approved by the museum’s board, even though they must still pay a heft price tag.
This exclusivity, coupled with the Gala’s reputation as a pinnacle of fashion and culture, contributes to its mystique and ensures that attending the event remains a symbol of status and influence in the entertainment and fashion industries.
