Britney Spears has a complicated relationship with her family, partly because of her conservatorship, which essentially gave her father, Jamie Spears, control of her life.
He was able to make financial, medical, and personal decisions on behalf of the Gimme More singer, and the conservatorship lasted from 2008 (after Spears had several public outbursts) until it was terminated in November 2021.
However, recently, there was a new milestone in the case, and it is finally over for good for Britney.
The news that Britney had settled her conservatorship case with her father was celebrated by her lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, who gave a statement about the legal victory to Page Six. “It has been our honor and privilege to represent, protect, and defend Britney Spears,” Rosengart said. “Ms. Spears is and always will be an icon and a brilliant and brave artist of historic and epic proportion.”
Why Did It Take So Long To Settle Britney Spears’ Conservatorship Case?
Many fans reading about the end of Britney Spears’ conservatorship case will probably be confused as to why this is still news. Her lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, explains the development of the case in his statement: “Although the conservatorship was terminated in November 2021, her wish for freedom is now truly complete.”
“As she desired, her freedom now includes that she will no longer need to attend or be involved with court, or entangled with legal proceedings in this matter.” He continued, “Britney Spears won when the court suspended her father, and Britney Spears won when her fundamental rights and civil liberties were restored.” This is a great moment for Spears, who has struggled for so long to have her freedom (13 years of being unable to make her own decisions), which her fans campaigned for with the #FreeBritney movement.
It is also clear that the musician is celebrating her freedom on social media, and there is no holding her back! This includes seductive poses as well as steamy images and videos, sometimes partially nude, although she covers her body enough to make it Instagram-approved. Spears is not here to please anyone but herself! This includes begging fans not to judge her body when she posted a provocative dance video. While there are plenty of happy moments in her life, she is also going through a divorce with Sam Asghari (whom she was finally able to marry in June 2022).
What Has Britney Spears’ Father Said About The End Of Her Conservatorship?
Before Britney Spears was granted the termination of her conservatorship, she made a statement to the judge, pleading to restore her rights. “I just want my life back. It’s been 13 years, and it’s enough,” she said at the time, per CNN.
Jamie Spears also made a statement about the case via his lawyer, and it appears that he is looking forward to putting this legal battle behind him. His lawyer, Alex Weingarten, told CNN, “Jamie is thrilled that this is all over.” He added, “Jamie loves his daughter very much and worked tirelessly to protect her. He wants the best for Britney, nothing less.” It remains to be seen whether Britney and her father will ever be able to move forward from this incident and reconnect, but his comments seemingly suggest that he is open to the idea.
