Cardi B is having an extremely busy day — first, news broke that she had filed for divorce from Offset … and then Cardi subsequently confirmed that she’s pregnant.

Cardi B and Offset’s relationship has sort of been of the “on and off” sort, and back on June 30, we reported that fans were convinced Cardi was expecting her third child.

Yes, Cardi (real name Belcalis Almanzar) almost pulled off a hat trick in terms of breaking news, and if the order of disclosures was intentional, it was brilliant.

Cardi B Is Divorcing Offset, Expecting A Third Baby

On the morning of August 1, entertainment and gossip outlets were alight with breaking news, that Cardi B filed for divorce from Offset.

The New York Post’s Page Six, Cardi’s hometown tabloid, carried the news as an “exclusive,” citing a representative for the rapper and former Love And Hip Hop star:

“Cardi B filed for divorce from her estranged husband on Wednesday [July 31], her rep confirmed to Page Six.

“The rep did not provide additional details, but we’re told Cardi is seeking primary custody of their children — and that this time she’s not folding.

“A source familiar with the situation told Page Six that the latest rumors Offset cheated were not the straw that broke the camel’s back for Cardi.”

It’s hard to say for sure, but Page Six got the news from Cardi’s representation, indicating that they chose to “release” that news at the time they did.

As People pointed out, Cardi said she was on the outs with Offset during an Instagram Live in December:

“I’ve been single for a minute now … But I have been afraid … Not afraid, I just don’t know how to tell the world. But I feel like today has been, like, a sign.”

Although Cardi didn’t file for divorce officially until July 31, she publicly labeled herself “single” in December, signaling she and Offset were “not together” at the time.

Page Six broke the story of Cardi’s divorce on the morning of August 1, and it was rapidly picked up by every major entertainment news site; their coverage was updated just before noon, and it was published earlier than that.

And then, right around noon on the same day and once the divorce news was everywhere, Cardi announced her third pregnancy via Instagram:

In a caption, she wrote a sweet message addressing her unborn child:

“With every ending comes a new beginning! I am so grateful to have shared this season with you, you have brought me more love, more life and most of all renewed my power!

“Reminded me that I can have it all! You’ve reminded me that I never have to choose between life, love, and my passion! I love you so much and can not wait for you to witness what you helped me accomplish, what you pushed me to do!

“It’s so much easier taking life’s twists, turns and test laying down, but you, your brother and your sister have shown me why it’s worth it to push through!”

At least one commenter implied Offset was the father of Cardi’s third baby, but not in a way flattering to him:

It’s not clear whether the couple stayed apart, or by whom Cardi is pregnant given the timeline — if she never went back to Offset after December, he’s almost certainly not her baby’s father.
