Princess Catherine Returns to Royal Duties for Historic State Visit
The Amir and his delegation, who arrived at Stansted Airport today, were received with full ceremonial honors.
The visit will include a grand welcome at Horse Guards Parade and a carriage procession to Buckingham Palace, reflecting the monarchy’s enduring role in showcasing Britain’s cultural and diplomatic elegance.
For Princess Catherine, this event will be her first significant public engagement since revealing her cancer diagnosis earlier this year.
Over the past 11 months, she has largely stepped back from public life to prioritize her health and family. Her appearance at this state visit, however, signals a new chapter in her royal responsibilities.
The Amir’s visit is the first state visit by a Middle Eastern leader since King Charles’s accession to the throne, further strengthening the already strong ties between the UK and Qatar. Senior Qatari diplomats have expressed their gratitude, stating that they are deeply honored by this recognition, which solidifies their robust partnership with the UK.
Accompanying the Amir is his wife, Sheikha Jawaher, who is also his second cousin and a mother to four of the Amir’s 13 children. Sheikha Jawaher is a familiar figure on the international stage, often representing Qatar alongside her husband during official visits. The Amir also has two subsequent spouses, reflecting the prominent cultural heritage and traditions of the Al Thani family.
