In a recent statement to PEOPLE, the disgraced producer who worked for Nickelodeon has expressed his intention to sue the producers of the new docuseries Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.

Several people who participated in the documentary implied that Dan Schneider abused the child actors he worked with, and protected other adults who later on were convicted of child abuse.

Faced with the backlash from the public, he’s made the decision to sue the creators and producers of the show, as he feels he’s been unfairly portrayed as a villain in the show.

This comes after he made a public apology for his past behavior, so it’s been a little confusing for fans, and will surely be a complicated legal battle.

Dan Schneider Sues ‘Quiet On Set’ Producers

Dan Schneider is now suing the creators and producers of the show for defamation, stating the portrayal of his character was “manipulative.” He also claimed that he was not aware of Brian Peck’s abuse of Drake Bell, and had no idea Jason Handy was also an abuser.

“Schneider had no knowledge of their abuse, was not complicit in the abuse, condemned the abuse once it was discovered and, critically, was not a child sexual abuser himself,” the filing said.

In his statement, Dan Schneid said that “After seeing Quiet on Set and its trailer, and the reactions to them, I sadly have no choice but to take legal action against the people behind it.”

He also accused producers of painting him in a bad light to make more of an impact on the audience. “In their successful attempt to mislead viewers and increase ratings, they went beyond reporting the truth and falsely implied that I was involved in or facilitated horrific crimes for which actual child predators have been prosecuted and convicted.”

Dan Schneider concluded, “I have no objection to anyone highlighting my failures as a boss, but it is wrong to mislead millions of people to the false conclusion that I was in any way involved in heinous acts like those committed by child predators. I owe it to myself, my family, and the many wonderful people involved in making these shows to set the record straight.”

Dan Schneider Apologized For His Actions Following The Release Of The Docuseries

Despite now wanting to fight the creators of Quiet on Set in court, a lot of people interpreted Dan Schneider’s recent apology as an admission of guilt.

Following the release of the docuseries, the former Nickelodeon producer issued an apology after seeing the way people reacted to what they learned.

“Facing my past behaviors, some of which are embarrassing and that I regret, I definitely owe some people a pretty strong apology,” he stated.

“Every one of those jokes was written for a kid audience because kids thought they were funny — and only funny,” Dan Schneider continued. “Now, we have some adults looking back at them 20 years later through their lens and they’re looking at them and they’re saying, ‘I don’t think that’s inappropriate for a kids’ show.’ And I have no problem with that… Let’s cut those jokes out of the show.”
