In a heartfelt tribute posted on Instagram, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos revealed a that legendary filmmaker David Lynch,

the filmmaker behind Twin Peaks, Mulholland Drive, and more had been working on a limited series for the streaming giant before his recent passing.

The project was described by Sarandos as “filled with mystery and risks,” and was to be Lynch’s final artistic endeavor.

Sarandos shared his first encounter with Lynch during an early screening of Mulholland Drive.

Years later, Lynch approached Netflix with a pitch for the new series, and the platform didn’t hesitate to greenlight it.

Sarandos said: “It was a David Lynch production, so filled with mystery and risks, but we wanted to go on this creative ride with this genius.”

Unfortunately, the series never made it into production. According to Sarandos, the dual setbacks of the Covid-19 pandemic and Lynch’s declining health derailed the project.

“We made it clear that as soon as he was able, we were all in,” Sarandos added. So, Netflix was 100% committed to bringing Lynch’s vision to life.

Sarandos also reflected on Lynch’s legacy, calling his work “remarkable, visionary, bold, and artful.” But alongside the admiration came a note of bittersweet regret: “I will always wonder about what he had in mind for us with what would have been his last project.”
