Richard Dreyfuss took part in a Q&A portion, and things didn’t go to plan.

Certainly not what fans were expecting to see at a Jaws screening out in Massachusetts. Richard Dreyfuss was taking on a Q&A at the event. However, fans instantly noticed they were in for something different, as Dreyfuss came out in a dress, while Taylor Swift’s Love Story song mockingly played in the background.

Things only got worse from there, as Dreyfuss went after Barbra Streisand. He called the star a “genius,” but then said she shouldn’t have that much power. Dreyfuss said, “A woman, and woman shouldn’t have that power.”

It only got worse from there as Dreyfuss took aim at the trans community. He said, “You shouldn’t be listening to some 10-year-old who says they want to be a boy instead of a girl.”.

As expected, those in the theater were repulsed by the rant, and proceeded to walk out.

Attendees commented. One person in particular wrote, “We walked out of his interview tonight along with hundred [sic] of others because of his racist homophobic misogynistic rant.”

Another person wrote, “This was disgusting. How could the Cabot not have vetted his act better. Apparently (I found out too late), he has a reputation for spewing this kind of racist, homophobic, misogynistic bullcrap.”

The Cabot theater faced a lot of heat as well, and issued a statement of their own on the matter. “(We’re) aware of, and share serious concerns, following the recent event with Richard Dreyfuss”.

The theater continues, “The views expressed by Mr Dreyfuss do not reflect the values of inclusivity and respect that we uphold as an organisation. We deeply regret the distress that this has caused to many of our patrons.”

A tough situation but one that shouldn’t be too surprising given Dreyfuss’ past.

Posted to X, this video went viral. Dreyfuss was asked about the new inclusion standards in Hollywood, which are set to be implemented in 2024 for films that get nominated for Best Picture. Dreyfuss didn’t hide his feelings on the matter.

He replied to the Academy’s new ruling. “They make me vomit. This is an art form. It is also a form of commerce. And no one should be telling me as an artist that I have to give in to the latest, most current idea of what morality is.”
