Tom Cruise may be one of the most successful actors in the industry, but being close to him doesn’t always bode well for one’s career, apparently.
A new report says Glen Powell’s prospects have been struggling since he worked with the famous Scientologist.
“I give Glen a lot of credit for parlaying small parts 10 years ago in movies like ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ into a blossoming career where you can put his face on the poster and people will show up and see him,” a source told Life & Style.
Glen Is Allegedly Obsessed With Himself
The insider claims that Glens’s struggle to stay humble could hurt him in the long term. “But the big red flag around who he’s become after all his success is this mission he’s on to become the biggest movie star in the world,” they said.
“Sure, he’s learned from the greats like his idol Tom Cruise, but he’s turning people off with his single-mindedness and I am not surprised at all that his love life, at least for the years he was living in Los Angeles, was filled with dead end relationships,” the insider continued.
Tom and Glen worked closely on 2022’s top Gun: Maverick. The source went on to say that Glen is self-obsessed, a negative trait that’s hindering his career.
“It’s hard to form a serious and intimate partnership when you’re as in love with yourself as Glen is,” they said. “Right now, his fix for this is to move back to Texas, but he’s only going to face the same issues with the women he comes across there.”
How Glen Cemented His Career
Glen is considered a big movie star by today’s standards, but it remains to be seen if his star power continues. He began his acting career with small roles in television and film, making his debut in the 2003 movie Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over. He gained more visibility with his roles in TV shows like The Lying Game (2012) and Scream Queens (2015-2016).
Glen’s breakthrough role came in 2016 when he starred as astronaut John Glen in the critically acclaimed film Hidden Figures. In 2018, he played the charming and ambitious pilot, Seresin, in the action-packed film Top Gun: Maverick, which became a major hit and further cemented his status in the industry.
In addition to his acting career, Powell has also ventured into producing, working on projects like Set It Up (2018), a romantic comedy where he also played the lead role.
More recently, Glen starred opposite Sydney Sweeney in Anyone But You in 2023. Hit Man also came out to critical acclaim the same year.
