Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter’s grandson recently shared an update about his grandfather’s health as he gets ready to celebrate his 100th birthday.
Jason Carter talked about this during a music event honoring Jimmy.
As Jimmy Carter approaches his amazing milestone on October 1, Jason gave some insights into how his grandad is doing.
This update comes after Jason mentioned that Jimmy is receiving hospice care in his hometown of Plains, Georgia.
In an interview with People magazine at the “Jimmy Carter 100: A Celebration in Song” concert, Jason shared that while Jimmy can’t do physical activities on his own anymore, he is still emotionally present and aware.
Jason shared, “He’s been in hospice for over 19 months now and has really physically diminished, but he is emotionally engaged and still having experiences, laughing, and loving.” He added, “[He’s] experiencing the world as best as he can as he continues through this process.”
Jason emphasized that while Jimmy is emotionally engaged, there hasn’t been much change in his health after several months in hospice care. He also shared that when his grandfather first entered hospice, the family believed it would only be days before he passed. However, he reflected, “God had other plans.”
