Kate Garraway ‘s broke down in tears at the National Television Awards on Wednesday night as she collected an award for her documentary on late husband Derek Draper with her two children by her side.
During the heartwarming family moment, Kate’s teenage daughter Darcey was spotted making a sweet gesture towards her younger brother Billy by moved fans.
The glam ceremony took a turn as their mum won the award for Best Authored Documentary.
Darcey, 18, who lost her beloved father Derek Draper at the beginning of the year, was seen sweetly comforting her younger brother 15, at London’s 02 Arena as Good Morning Britain star Kate, 57, made a tear-jerking speech after winning the gong for her devastating documentary on the hardships of caring for her late husband Derek, who died after a four-year battle after suffering with complications from Covid.
When it was announced that Derek’s Story – which followed the final year of their late father’s life – had won the award for Best Authored Documentary, the cameras cut to siblings Darcey and Billy who beamed with pride as their mum stood up to accept the award. Viewers then noticed that Darcey lovingly rubbed her younger brother’s shoulders as he was overcome with emotion during the special moment.
While accepting her speech, Kate left audience members in tears as she dedicated the award to her late husband and all the carers across the UK who she insisted don’t get enough credit for all the hard and stressful work they do in looking after their loved-ones – something she did for Derek for the last year of his life.
