Harrison Butker’s speech at Benedictine College in Kansas caused outrage everywhere.
In his speech, the Kansas City Chiefs kicker made some controversial remarks about gender roles, especially about the role he believes women should take in society, and according to his reaction to the backlash, he expected this to happen.
While a lot of people chose to be upset about it, Katy Perry decided to have fun.
She recently posted a video on her Instagram of an edited version of Harrison Butker’s comments, saying she “fixed” it as a way to celebrate Pride Month.
Katy Perry’s Edited Version Of Harrison Butker’s Speech

As a way to commemorate Pride Month, which the LGBT community celebrates throughout June, Katy Perry made a daring joke on her Instagram. She edited a short clip of Harrison Butker’s controversial commencement speech at Benedictine College in Kansas, which has been causing controversy for several days now.
The Kansas City Chiefs kicker made several comments about gender roles, telling women who were graduating that “homemaker” was one of “the most important titles” a woman could have. Katy Perry posted her edited clip of the speech and captioned it “fixed this for my girls, my graduates, and my gays — you can do anything, congratulations and happy pride.”
She edited the speech to say “I would venture to guess that the women here today are going to lead successful careers in the world. I say all of this to you because I have seen it firsthand. How much happier someone can be supporting women and not saying that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world. The road ahead is bright. Things are changing, society is shifting and people, young and old, are embracing diversity, equity and inclusion.”
Harrison Butker’s Response To The Controversy

Harrison Butker became fully aware of the controversy his speech caused very quickly, but he only doubled down on his comments when he saw the backlash. According to the Kansas City Chiefs kicker, he was being attacked for his religious beliefs.
“It is now, over the past few days, my beliefs or what people think I believe have been the focus of countless discussions around the globe,” Harrison Butker said in a statement. “At the outset, many people expressed a shocking level of hate. But as the days went on, even those who disagreed with my viewpoints shared their support for my freedom of religion.”
He also made it clear that he didn’t regret anything he said and asked people to be more tolerant of his religious views.
“In my seven years in the NFL, I’ve become familiar with the positive and negative comments, but the majority of them revolve around my performance on the field,” he went on. “But as to be expected, the more I’ve talked about what I value most, which is my Catholic faith, the more polarizing I have become. It’s a decision I’ve consciously made and one I do not regret at all.”
“My hope is that tonight’s theme and our mission will embolden others, that many more will be unapologetic of their Catholic faith and never be afraid to speak out for truth, even when it goes against the loudest voices,” he concluded.
As expected, the fact that he reaffirmed his controversial takes only fueled the backlash, but he seems comfortable knowing the kind of response he would get.
