Think Kendall Jenner’s jet-setting lifestyle is all glitz and glamour? Think again.
In a candid conversation with Emma Chamberlain on her podcast Anything Goes, Kendall took off the rose-tinted glasses and gave fans a peek behind the curtain of her high-fashion career.
And let’s just say, it’s not all cocktail parties and red carpets.
At 28, Kendall’s name is practically synonymous with model royalty, but her rise to fame came with its own set of trials.
From being the quiet sister on Keeping Up with the Kardashians to strutting her stuff on the world’s biggest runways, Kendall’s path to superstardom hasn’t been a walk in the park.
Kendall Elaborates On The Challenges She Faced In Her Career
“I’m not gonna sit here and say that I’ve had the toughest journey. I think I’ve been extremely fortunate,” Kendall admitted during the August 1 episode. “But I also have had my own set of challenges, whether it’s [being] overworked or not getting a job that I would’ve really loved to get.”
Kendall’s career took off in earnest after signing with Wilhelmina Models at just 14. Her big break came in 2014 when she walked the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, and from there, she was unstoppable.
Her name soon graced the covers of major magazines like Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, and she became a fixture on high-fashion runways, working with designers like Chanel and Givenchy. But this success didn’t come without a price.
Kendall Says She Had “Dark Nights” Where She Cried Herself To Sleep
Despite the glitz, Kendall opened up about the loneliness that creeps in during her endless travels. “It is very lonely,” she confessed to Chamberlain. “I’ve had really dark nights where I’ve been in random cities and just hysterically crying myself to sleep because I haven’t been home in three months and I’ve been pretty much alone the entire time.” Sounds like the glamorous jet-setter life isn’t always as dreamy as it seems!
The model also shared how missing out on significant personal moments due to her packed schedule has taken an emotional toll.
“There are other times when I’m working and something really crazy happens at home that I would love to be there for and I’m being told I can’t be,” Kendall said, revealing the sacrifices she’s made.
Despite the emotional rollercoaster, Kendall has her self-care game on point. To combat the loneliness and stress, she indulges in a variety of routines that keep her grounded. Whether it’s taking a refreshing shower to cleanse herself, indulging in a dip in any body of water (a Scorpio trait, she says), taking relaxing walks, or hitting pause on her digital devices for a detox, the model assures fans she knows how to take care of herself amidst the chaos.
Reflecting on her career, Kendall can’t help but appreciate the opportunities that come with her fame. “It really is a beautiful thing to be able to travel the world the way I have. I probably would’ve never traveled the way I have or the amount that I have had I not had this job. I’ve met a lot of amazing people,” she said. “I feel very grateful for my experience.”
So the next time you see Kendall strutting down a runway or gracing the cover of Vogue, remember: there’s more to her story than meets the eye. And that’s the real tea on the not-so-glamorous side of being one of fashion’s top supermodels!
