In the wake of deadly fires in LA, Bruce Willis — who has dementia — stepped outside of his home in a rare outing.
His public appearance, People suggested, was the first time since 2022 when his family announced his diagnosis.
So, the outing must be for an important reason. In a post of his wife, Emma Heming, it appears yes.
“Spotting a first responder, Bruce never missed a chance to show his gratitude with a heartfelt handshake and a ‘thank you for your service,’” the 46-year-old shared a clip of black-and-white footage on Instagram which saw the Die Hard star having a friendly conversation with the cops.
The 69-year-old was seen in a light-colored corduroy jacket, dark pants and baseball hat with Led Zeppelin’s Going to California playing in the background of the post.
In March 2022, Bruce’s family announced his aphasia diagnosis, adding that he would be “stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.”
Following this, the veteran actor received the “cruel” diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia.
“While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis,” his family shared.
“FTD is a cruel disease that many of us have never heard of and can strike anyone. For people under 60, FTD is the most common form of dementia, and because getting the diagnosis can take years, FTD is likely much more prevalent than we know,” they added.
“Today there are no treatments for the disease, a reality that we hope can change in the years ahead.”
“As Bruce’s condition advances, we hope that any media attention can be focused on shining a light on this disease that needs far more awareness and research,” Bruce’s family statement noted.
