Monica Lewinsky Quotes Taylor Swift In Reference To Bill Clinton Scandal

Monica Lewinsky made a huge impact on US politics by exposing an affair she had with President Bill Clinton, back when she was in her 20s and working as an intern at the White House.

After her confession, she went through hell as she was dragged by the media for years.

Even now, she’s occasionally attacked for it.

In a recent tweet, Monica Lewinsky shocked people by making fun of the cheating scandal using a Taylor Swift song. The tweet was hilarious, and users were quick to point it out.

Even though it caused some indignation, her joke made it clear she’d turned the page.

Monica Lewinsky Mocked Bill Clinton Cheating Scandal By Quoting Taylor Swift

While it hurt her for a long time, Monica Lewinsky seems to have found a way to see the humor in the scandal, and recently, she made fun of the situation with a tweet quoting Taylor Swift.

She posted a picture of the White House and captioned it with the line “You wouldn’t last an hour in the asylum where they raised me,” from Taylor Swift’s song “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” from her new album, The Tortured Poets Department.

While her tweet seemed to anger a few people, most of the replies were from users celebrating her wit. After the song came out, it became sort of a trend to use that line to make jokes.

“You win this trend,” one user replied to her. “Your ability to have a sense of humor over what they did to you is pretty inspirational,” someone else wrote.

Monica Lewinsky Suffered For Many Years After The Scandal Broke

Seeing Monica Lewinsky joke about the scandal is a good thing, considering how low the media treatment and public hate made her feel for decades. She credits her family and friends for keeping her sane during the “tsunami of hate” she suffered.

“I can’t imagine what it would be like to go through what I did or any sort of a crucible and not have that support of the people who’ve known you your whole life and know you most intimately,” she said about it. “The thing I tell myself now once you survive once, it’s in there. No matter how terrible it feels, somewhere in there is you got through it once, you know the cycle. It’s as bad as it seems, it will get better.”

She also sees a big change in the way people talk about the scandal. Monica Lewinsky owns up to her part in the cheating scandal but also points out that the way she was treated is a testament to how women in general were treated.

“I think it’s long overdue and wonderful to see it happening for different women in different arenas and scenarios. I made a mistake” she admitted. “There were other young women this happened to, and there’s an enormous amount of collateral damage. So I think it’s not just an apology to a person; it’s an apology to how you’ve affected a culture.”

Monica said that the Me Too movement had a lot to do with the change in the public perception of her.

“What is sexual agency? What does it mean? It’s not surprising that this de-objectifying of women is happening alongside the #MeToo movement. They braid together in a way that makes sense.”
