Nicki Minaj was nearly hit in the face while performing in Detroit last night, which comes days after her husband Kenneth Petty submitted a request to the court to travel with her despite being on probation for failing to register as a sex offender.
Nicki Nearly Got Hit In The Face At Her Detroit Concert
During her performance at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on April 20, the rapper experienced an unexpected disruption as she neared the end of her show. While singing “Starships,” a pink bracelet was hurled at her, captured in fan footage heading towards her face.
Reacting swiftly, the entertainer deflected the object with her hand, ensuring her safety. Despite the interruption, Nicki regained her composure, and continued on with her performance. It’s unclear if the person who threw the object was approached by the venue’s security following the incident.
Currently on her Pink Friday 2 World Tour, Minaj is set to perform in Chicago for two nights before continuing to Minneapolis and Toronto. The tour is slated to extend to Europe in late May, ending on July 14 in Liege, Belgium.
Why Nicki’s Husband May Not Be Able To Join Her On Tour
Nicki is currently waiting on the court’s decision as to whether her husband can travel abroad with her. His request explains he’s needed to help care for their son while Minaj tours.
“The Government has been notified about this application and takes no position. Mr. Petty’s probation officer has been notified of this application and has no objection to the travel request,” his court filing says.
Kenneth is currently on probation for failing to register as a sex offender over crimes he was convicted of over two decades ago. After being accused of first-degree rape involving a woman identified as Jennifer Hough (who was a minor at the time) in 1995, Petty entered into a plea agreement with prosecutors resulting in a reduction of the charge to attempted rape.
Kenneth is currently under probation due to his failure to register as a sex offender for crimes he committed over two decades ago. Accused of first-degree rape in 1995, he entered a plea agreement, resulting in a reduced charge of attempted rape. Despite denying the allegations, and with Nicki publicly supporting him, his accuser, Jennifer Hough, stands by her claims. In addition to serving time for sex crimes, Kenneth has also been convicted and done a prison sentence for manslaughter.
Following his marriage to Minaj in 2019, they moved to California. However, legal issues arose in 2021 when he failed to comply with sex offender registration requirements, leading to a three-year probation mandate. His probation included regular drug testing, and following allegations of threatening Cardi B’s husband, he completed 120 days of house arrest.
Now, Kenneth seeks permission to travel with Nicki, awaiting the court’s decision amidst other legal troubles, including a recent court settlement that determined Nicki and Kenneth must compensate a security guard he allegedly assaulted in Germany the last time her joined her on tour.
