Prince William made a heartwarming gesture during his family’s half-term break, taking time out of his vacation to send a congratulatory message to Billy Monger, a former race car driver who recently set a new record at the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona, Hawaii.
Monger, who tragically lost both of his legs in a racing accident in 2017, made history this year by becoming the fastest double amputee to ever compete in the grueling IRONMAN competition.
He completed the 140.6-mile race, which includes a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and a 26.2-mile marathon, in an impressive 14 hours, 23 minutes, and 56 seconds—beating the previous record by more than two hours.
In a note posted to social media, Monger shared his excitement after breaking the record, writing: “It’s unbelievable that the world championship record was just broken.
My official name is Ironman, let’s go!” In response, Prince William sent a five-word message: *“Excellent work Billy, well done.”* The message was signed by the Prince himself and reflected his genuine admiration for Monger’s achievement.
This thoughtful gesture came during the royal family’s break, which they were enjoying at their private residence. According to the Lambrook School website, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis will return to their classes on Monday, November 4. Earlier this week, Prince William shared that he had been spending quality time with his children, watching sports during their break.
