Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes may be two of the world’s most successful actors,
but their two daughters don’t seem to care, even on the heels of reports that say Gosling may be taking a break from Hollywood.
In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Ryan opened up about his daughters, Esmeralda Amada, 9, and Amada Lee, 8, revealing that at home, he and his wife are just “mom and dad” to them.
Ryan Says His Kids Don’t Care About His Acting
The actor recalled their reaction to Eva’s special guest appearance on the popular children’s program Bluey. Mendes lent her voice to a yoga instructor character in an episode of the series in 2021. However, despite the anticipation, Gosling noted that Mendes did not receive the enthusiastic response from their daughters that she had expected.
“Eva was on an episode of Bluey, we both thought it was going to be huge” he explained. “They didn’t like it, They were like, ‘Fast-forward through that part!’”
Moreover, it doesn’t sound like his daughters were impressed by his stunts in his new movie The Fall Guy, especially ones involving fire, revealing the girls refused to watch.
“My kids didn’t want me to be set on fire, They were like, ‘No. No fire.’ So I didn’t do it,” the Barbie star went on.
Ryan’s new movie just hit theatres, but it’s already receiving calls for cancelation by fans who’re angered by a joke made at Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s expense during one scene involving Hannah Waddingham and Emily Blunt. Critics say the movie trivializes domestic violence, leading to mixed reviews.
Why Ryan Is Reportedly Taking A Break From Hollywood
But it may be the last project fans get to see Gosling in for a while, as a report from earlier this year said he’s planning to take a break from acting to spend more time with his family.
“Spending time with Eva and the kids was obviously the top priority, but he also needed a break. Ryan tends to work in big spurts, then takes time off so he can come back to the next challenge with a full tank,” a source told the National Enquirer UK.
While Ryan hasn’t confirmed or denied the speculation, Eva Mendes has previously been open about her decision to step away from the spotlight when she became a mom, saying she has no regrets.
“It was like a no-brainer. I’m so lucky, and I was like, if I can have this time with my children… and I still worked, I just didn’t act because acting takes you on locations, it takes you away,” she said in 2014. “It was almost just like a non-verbal agreement that it was like, ‘Okay he’s going to work and I’m going to work, I’m just going to work here.'”
Fans may be disappointed to see less of Eva and Ryan on the big screen, but we’re betting their daughters will appreciate the quality family time.
