Shannen Doherty was very clear about her wishes for when she passed.
The actress battled cancer for almost a decade and finally passed away on July 13.
Since she knew she didn’t have a lot of time left, she decided to clearly state what she wanted her loved ones to do about her funeral and her remains.
She shared the instructions for what she wanted in an episode of her Let’s Be Clear podcast back in January, and hopefully, her wishes will be honored now that she’s gone.
Shannen Doherty Knew What She Wanted For Her Funeral
Shannen was adamant that she didn’t want to be buried in a casket. Instead, she wanted to be cremated, and her request was very moving.
“I want [my remains] to be mixed with my dog, and I want it to be mixed with my dad. I do not want to be buried and not cremated,” she stated. She also said that she wanted the mixed ashes to be used as fertilizer and “grow them into a tree” in Malibu, California, where she and her dad spent “precious time” together.
Regarding her funeral, Shannen was apparently trying to keep certain people out and asked for it to be a very private and intimate affair.
“There’s a lot of people that I think would show up that I don’t want there. I don’t want them there because their reasons for showing up aren’t necessarily the best reasons,” she explained.
Obviously, there weren’t any names mentioned, but fans immediately thought of her ex-husband.
“Like, they don’t really like me and, you know, they have their reasons and good for them, but they don’t actually really like me enough to show up to my funeral.”
She also said she didn’t want anyone to feel pressured to attend her funeral.
“[They’d show up] because it’s the politically correct thing to do, and they don’t want to look bad, so I kinda want to take the pressure off them and I want my funeral to be like a love fest.”
“I don’t want people to be crying or people to privately be like, ‘Thank God that b*tch is dead now’,” she added, with her usual dry humor.
Shannen Doherty About Her Ex-Husband
In one of the recent filings, she alleges that he was dragging the divorce process on purpose so that she wouldn’t survive it and he could avoid his obligations.
“His overt efforts to delay our divorce — by promising to willingly provide information and then failing to do so until served with formal discovery — have caused me tremendous stress and aggravation during an already difficult time. I would like the peace of mind to focus on my health, and no longer wish to engage in Kurt’s sadistic push and pull game.”
“It is simply not right that Kurt be permitted to prolong our divorce in hopes that I die before he is required to pay me while he continues to live his life and shirk his responsibilities to his dying wife of more than 11 years,” she said in an emotional statement.
It’s unclear if Kurt was one of the people that Shannen mentioned would show up to her funeral for the “wrong reasons,” but it’s clear that he caused her a lot of stress in her final days.
