Last weekend, Mariah Carey experienced a huge tragedy when she lost both her mother and sister on the same day.
The famous singer shared the sad news in a social media post, saying: “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend.
Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.”
This is a heartbreaking loss for anyone to experience. Throughout her life, Carey had complicated relationships with both her mother, Patricia Carey, and her sister, Alison Carey.
Mariah confirmed that she spent time with her mother during the last week of her life. However, things were different with her sister, Alison. The two sisters had been estranged for many years. Mariah had accused Alison of physical and emotional abuse when they were younger.
While Mariah became famous for her incredible voice and rose to stardom, Alison faced many struggles. She dealt with serious health problems and made some bad choices in life.
The sisters had a rocky relationship for many years. Alison, who was HIV positive and struggled with drug addiction, reached out to Mariah in 2016, asking her to fix their relationship.
In 2020, the tension between Mariah Carey and her sister Alison grew even worse when Alison filed a $1.25 million lawsuit against Mariah. The lawsuit was in response to claims Mariah made in her memoir, where she said that Alison had drugged her when she was 12 years old and caused her to get third-degree burns.
Sadly, Mariah and Alison stayed on bad terms until Alison passed away. A friend of Alison’s named David Baker recently claimed that Mariah knew her sister was dying but chose not to contact her.
Baker said that even though Mariah was told a month ago that Alison was dying, she made no effort to reach out to her sister.
“Alison was upset that her ‘baby sister’ had stopped talking to her,” David said in an interview with The Sun.
“She often talked about it. She wondered if Mariah or any of their relatives would come to her funeral.”
David continued, “Mariah never tried to contact Alison, even after she was told a month ago that Alison was dying.” He added, “A phone call or a video call from Mariah would have meant so much to Alison.”
Our thoughts are with Mariah Carey during this difficult time. Losing both your mother and sister on the same day is truly unimaginable.
