Jimmy Kimmel’s latest monologue about Travis Kelce has received a lot of negative feedback from swifties.
The famous host made several jokes about Travis being “broke” compared to Taylor Swift, who is a billionaire, and her fans immediately jumped to Travis’ defense, criticizing Jimmy Kimmel’s jokes and calling them offensive and not funny.
While it’s true that Travis Kelce makes less money than Taylor Swift, he’s still incredibly successful in his career, and as swifties pointed out, the idea that the man must make more than the woman in a relationship is a bit outdated nowadays.
Jimmy Kimmel’s Jokes About Travis Kelce Angered Swifties
Jimmy Kimmel’s monologue about Travis Kelce was not well-received by swifties. And with good reason. Even though the host clearly had no ill intentions, it’s usually considered bad manners to make fun of someone’s profession or how much money they make.
While Travis Kelce is an incredibly successful NFL player and gets paid a huge amount of money every year, of course, compared to Taylor Swift, the most famous musician in the world right now and a literal billionaire, he makes significantly less.
He recently signed a contract for $34 million, and while Jimmy Kimmel congratulated him, he quickly turned his latest achievement into a laughingstock.
“Congratulations to Travis Kelce. Travis Kelce signed a two-year contract extension with the Kansas City Chiefs. He is now the highest-paid tight end in the NFL,” the host said, then quickly adding, “Can you imagine being in a relationship where you make $34 million, and you’re still the broke boyfriend?”
He said that for Taylor Swift, $34 million would be “gum money”, and congratulated the singer for being “the first artist in history to occupy all of the Top 14 spots on Billboard’s Hot 100 list.”
Despite the shout-out to their favorite singer, swifties were still outraged by Jimmy Kimmel’s monologue. “It’s more money than you make Jimmy” one user commented. Another pointed out “Can you imagine a career where people ‘jokingly’ insult another professional just because it’s the hot topic? Crazy.”
A lot of commenters also said that, in this day and age, making fun of a man for making less than his girlfriend is old-fashioned and simply not funny, as it reinforces outdated gender roles.
Both Taylor Swift And Travis Kelce Prioritize Their Careers
Regardless of how much money they make (and they both make a lot), what drives both Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce is their passion for their careers. This is something that really brings them close, as they understand how important it is to support their partner in their career, and clearly, they enjoy being each other’s biggest fan.
Taylor Swift has been spotted on most of the Kansas City Chiefs games cheering Travis on, and Travis Kelce has flown to Argentina, Australia, and Singapore to attend her Eras tour shows.
“We are both very career-driven,” Travis Kelce gushed not long ago in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “I think we both love what we do and any chance that I can show my support to her — knowing that she has shown me all the support in the world throughout the season — it’s just been an amazing experience getting to know Tay.”
In that same interview, he announced he would be joining Taylor on the European leg of her Eras tour. “You know I gotta go support,” he said, adding “There won’t be a bad show, I promise you that.”
