The Tom Brady roast may have been a success for Netflix in terms of popularity and views, but it certainly wreaked havoc on the retired NFL player’s personal life.

The roast seemed to cross a lot of lines, because instead of just focusing on Tom Brady, the jokes touched on personal subjects that he didn’t like people making fun of.

Now, Tom Brady says he wouldn’t do it again, as the roast included remarks to the mothers of his children.

Particularly, it was very hurtful for Gisele Bundchen, who got accused of cheating on Tom Brady with his current boyfriend, something Tom has since apologized for.

Tom Brady Admits The Netflix Roast Wasn’t A Good Idea

Faced with the consequences of Netflix’s roast, Tom Brady has admitted he didn’t think his decision through. There were things about the special that he liked and he found funny, but the jokes focused a little too much on his divorce from Gisele Bundchen, and apart from being dangerous, they hurt his ex-wife and his children, and he deeply regrets that.

“I liked when the jokes were about me. I thought they were so fun. I didn’t like the way they affected my kids,” Tom Brady admitted on The Pivot podcast. “It’s the hardest part about… like, the bittersweet aspect of when you do something that you think is one way and then all of a sudden you realize I wouldn’t do that again because of the way that it affected actually the people that I care about the most in the world.”

“Sometimes you’re naive,” he went on. “You don’t know. When I signed up for that…I love when people are making fun of me. I always said when I was going through the Deflategate stuff that I watched three things on TV: Premiere League soccer, golf and comedy shows.”

The roast was not at all what Tom Brady hoped. “Every time I turned on SportsCenter it was like, are you f***ing kidding me? I just want to laugh. I wanted to do the roast because Jeff Ross became somebody I knew. But you don’t see the full picture all the time.”

Gisele Bundchen Was Hurt And Offended By Tom Brady Roast

Tom Brady knew right away that Gisele Bundchen didn’t take the jokes in the roast well. Particularly Kevin Hart, who made fun of the rumors about her cheating on Tom, hurt her deeply, because she tried very hard to dispel the infidelity rumors and hated that her new relationship got brought into the roast.

“Gisele gave you an ultimatum. She said you have to retire or you’re done. But when you have a chance to go 8-9 you gotta do it,” Kevin Hart joked. “You know who also f***ed their coach? Gisele, she f***ed her karate coach,” the comedian added. “Tom, how did you not see this coming? Eight karate classes a day?”

Tom Brady reached out to apologize to Gisele Bundchen, as he knew the jokes had crossed a line.

“Gisele and Tom had a ‘no disparaging remarks’ rule when it came to speaking about each other or their marriage and divorce. She is definitely offended and upset about the comments made at the roast,” a source told Us Weekly. The insider added that Gisele “is aware that it comes with the territory of a roast but didn’t think there were going to be that many remarks made about her and especially her new relationship. She thinks her new relationship should have been off-limits.”

Thankfully, it seems they were able to work things out. “Tom did reach out to Gisele to apologize to her,” the source said. “They are cordial and only communicate about the kids.”
