Mirko Marweg, a Delta Air Lines worker who died in a tragic tire explosion at the Atlanta airport this week, was just months away from retiring.

Mirko Marweg, a Delta Air Lines worker who was killed in a tire explosion at the Atlanta airport this week, was very close to retiring before his tragic death.
His wife, Scottie Ann Marweg, says Mirko had planned to retire next June after spending 20 years working in the paint shop at Delta.
Mirko’s wife of 28 years shared with WANF News in Georgia that she is still struggling to come to terms with his death, saying she is in “disbelief.”
She remembers Mirko for his big heart and warm smile. She said he was always willing to help others, loved his family deeply, was very smart, and liked to plan things out.
From his wife’s description, it seems like Mirko was looking forward to retiring and enjoying life, but sadly, he never got that chance.
As we mentioned earlier, Mirko and Luis Aldarondo tragically died on Tuesday when a tire exploded while being taken off a Delta plane at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport.
Mirko’s son shared that his father’s body was so badly burned that he was barely recognizable. They could only identify him by his tattoos and the lanyard he wore around his neck.
The exact cause of the explosion is still unknown, but the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is currently investigating.
